| Abstract: | Land use systems in the Amazon estuary have shifted periodically in response to the ebb and flow of indigenous cultures and increasing market integration. People have occupied the various islands at the mouth of the giant river for some 30,000 years and have constantly re-arranged the biological furniture. |
