Revisão taxonômica das espécies amazônicas do gênero Syneches Walker (Diptera: Hybotidae, Hybotinae)

Abstract

Syneches Walker, 1852, (Diptera: Hybotidae) has a cosmopolitan distribution with more than 160 species recorded worldwide. It is one of the most diverse genera of the Hybotidae subfamily in the Neotropical Region, and of the 39 known species, 16 occur in the Amazon, 15 in Brazil and 10 in the Brazilian Amazon. In this work, the Amazonian species of Syneches were reviewed based on the external general morphology and internal of the terminalia, resulting in the redescription of five species and the description of 17 new species. The male of S. fuscescens Bezzi, 1909 and the females of S. annulipes Bezzi, 1909 and S. obeliscus Bezzi, 1909 were described and the terminalia illustrated. Geographic records for S. annulipes Bezzi, 1909, S. curvipes (Fabricius, 1805), S. fuscescens Bezzi, 1909, S. manaos Smith, 1962, S. moraballi Smith, 1963, S. rafaeli Ale-Rocha & Vieira, 2008, S. repletus Bezzi, 1909 and S. walkeri Smith, 1962 were updated and an identification key for species recorded in the Amazon was provided. Thus, the number of Syneches species was increased to 34 in the Amazon region, 29 in Brazil and 56 in the Neotropical Region.
