Resumo: Effects of different canteen leftovers, as components in formulated diets, were evaluated on growth performance and fillet composition ofjuvenile tambaqui. The experiment was conducted in 4 canvas tanks, each of 3.3 m3 capacity stocked with 20 fish (mean weight 360 g) and with a recirculating water supply. The first treatment was a control diet with 35% crude protein and the other three treatments were a pelleted diet in which part of the control diet was replaced with canteen leftovers at 15, 30 or 45% levels. The fish were acclimated for 1 week to the experimental conditions. The fish were weighed individually every 28 days and lengths were measured (standard length) 4 times during the experimental period. At the end of the 84-day experiment, the fish were killed for fillet composition analysis. The fish fed the pelleted diet containing 30% canteen leftovers had a significantly (PC 0.05) higher growth rate than those fed the other treatments but did not differ significantly from the fish fed the control diet. There was a positive correlation between the level of protein, energy and ash in the pelleted diet and the fish fillet, but there was no such correlation for dry matter and gross energy.
