Abstract:
The essential oils obtained from leaves and thin branches of Pothomorphe umbellata (L.) Miq. And Pothomorphepeltata (L.) Miq. Were investigated by GC/MS. The principal constituents identified in the oil of P. Umbellata were β-caryophyllene (14.8%), germacrene D (27.4%), bicyclogermacrene (11.5%) and δ-cadinene (13.3%), comprising to 67% of the oil. The major components identified in the oil of P. Peltata were β-caryophyllene (39.0%), α-humulene (6.4%), germacrene D (8.7%), (E)-nerolidol (11.7%) and caryophyllene oxide (7.2%), corresponding to 73% of the oil. Except for octadecanol found in the oil of P. Peltata, all other (39) compounds identified in both species were sesquiterpenes. © 1999, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. All rights reserved.
