Abstract

In this thesis the current fishing situation in the Pantanal of Mato Grosso was analyzed South, including the activity of professional artisanal fishermen and that of sport fishermen. The current characteristics of fishing and previous periods, seeking to relate them to the natural alterations of the ecosystem, environmental quality, fisheries policy and legislation. there is an general indication that fishery resources are relatively little explored, which was corroborated by the relation of capture versus effort for total fishing and for the main species, with the exception of pacu Piaractus mesopotamicus. It was found that the production of professional and sport can be explained, in addition to the effort, by the height of the river, temperature and hydrological month or period, and their interactions. This thesis sought to valuing man's well-being and the need to plan the integrated development for the region for effective conservation of resources fisheries in the Pantanal.
