Abstract:
A new species belonging to the Epidendrum difforme group is proposed from the Brazilian central Amazon near Manaus. It is described, illustrated and compared with close relatives. The species can be recognized by the tall, terete stems, the 3–9 simultaneous flowers, the lip shallowly 4-lobed with the mid-lobe formed by two rounded lobes, being deeply emarginate in the middle, and the citrus fragrance. The only other species of this group found in the vicinity is Epidendrum althausenii which is quite different. The new species is closely related to E. campaccii from eastern Brazil. The group presently includes about 125 species ranging from Florida to southern Brazil. Copyright © 2020 Magnolia Press.
