Abstract

A review was made of the most recent literature on morphology and ontogeny of stomata in Bryophyles and Pteridophytes. Comparisons were made between Kondo's (1962) ontogenetic and Van Cotthem's (1970) morphological classification of stomata, and possible correlations of the two systems were considered. It was concluded that there is no direct correlation, in most cases, between the ontogeny of stomata and the morphology of adult stomata. Floating stomata were also considered, and the current accepted ontogeny is discussed.", 'en
