No estuário do Rio Amazonas o manejo de terras mudou periodicamente em consequência das idas e vindas de populações indígenas e sua crescente integração no mercado. Povos diferentes ocuparam vários espaços distintos na foz do gigantesco rio por mais de 30,000 anos provocando mudanças constantes na paisagem local.
Abstract:
Land use systems in the Amazon estuary have shifted periodically in response to the ebb and flow of indigenous cultures and increasing market integration. People have occupied the various islands at the mouth of the giant river for some 30,000 years and have constantly re-arranged the biological furniture.
