Abstract:
Juveniles of tambaqui Colossoma macropomum were fed diets containing 0, 100 and 500 mg of L-ascorbic acid (AA) per kg of feed for 10 weeks. Subsequently exposed to acute hypoxia for 6 h, the animals fed with high levels of AA exhibited no changes in blood pH and plasma glucose and reduced levels of lipid peroxidation. Thus, AA-enriched diets reduce the effects of hypoxia insult on juveniles of C. macropomum. © 2000 The Authors.
